Happiness is...

HAPPINESS IS FINDING A PENCIL.
PIZZA WITH SAUSAGE
TELLING THE TIME.
HAPPINESS IS LEARNING TO WHISTLE.
TYING YOUR SHOE FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME.

HAPPINESS IS PLAYING THE DRUM IN YOUR OWN SCHOOL BAND.
AND HAPPINESS IS WALKING HAND IN HAND.
HAPPINESS IS TWO KINDS OF ICE CREAM.
KNOWING A SECRET.
CLIMBING A TREE.
HAPPINESS IS FIVE DIFFERENT CRAYONS.
CATCHING A FIREFLY.
SETTING HIM FREE.

HAPPINESS IS BEING ALONE EVERY NOW AND THEN.
AND HAPPINESS IS COMING HOME AGAIN.
HAPPINESS IS MORNING AND EVENING,
DAY TIME AND NIGHT TIME TOO.
FOR HAPPINESS IS ANYONE AND ANYTHING AT ALL
THAT'S LOVED BY YOU.

HAPPINESS IS HAVING A SISTER.
SHARING A SANDWICH.
GETTING ALONG.
HAPPINESS IS SINGING TOGETHER WHEN DAY IS THROUGH,
AND HAPPINESS IS THOSE WHO SING WITH YOU.
HAPPINESS IS MORNING AND EVENING,
DAYTIME AND NIGHTTIME TOO.
FOR HAPPINESS IS ANYONE AND ANYTHING AT ALL
THAT'S LOVED BY YOU.

Orange I am... advert

In poetry over the next few weeks I would like you to write a poem in the same style as these about you and then about Christmas. Mr Kevin did it with his class last year and Mr Tom did it with his class in England. We could record our voices too. What do you think?

Mr Tom's class in England made this advert and won a prize:

Mr Kevin's class last year made this when they were in our room and called 4C too!

I think you will be very good at this.
There will be treasure points for any good ideas for your own I AM...

Star of the Week: Maria!

Well done to Maria for being our Star of the Week for her wonderful writing and perfect presentation!

Sorry it has taken so long to put it on here Maria1

Christmas is coming!

4C,

I have been recommending places for people to go in London at Christmas and I am feeling inspired after watching this video of Lapland UK on youtube. I was thinking that we could maybe make the smoothie for our buddies next term and instead do something like this for them instead. We could wear Santa hats and act as elves. Maybe we could do this on Monday 21st of December. We could make Baboushka biscuits and do other things. What do you think? Let me know!

The Brilliant Susan Boyle!

In English we have an expression, "Don´t judge a book by its cover?" Do you have this expression in Spanish? Here it means that Susan Boyle may not look beautiful on the outside but she has a beautiful voice.

The song was written for a Musical in the West End of London called "Cats". Ask your parents if it has been translated into English and if they have seen it on stage.
It began in 1981. I went to see it with my grandparents in 1990 and was lucky enough to meet the cast of actors before the show. It is one of my happiest memories with my family.

The song is about remembering the past and talking about starting a new life.
This is the version from the Musical "Cats".

This is the same song but sung by a woman called Barbra Streisand.

This version might be easter for some of you. It is lower because it is sung by a male singer called Barry Manilow.

Perimeter of compound shapes

4C,

Working out the area of a compound shape can be a bit tricky so remember that you can use a colour-pencil to help you. Each time you have added a number, draw the line with a colour-pencil. Then, you will not forget to add all the sides! If you do this, when you come to doing a test you can draw the line quickly with a pencil and you should get the answer right!

Remember, we are only BEGINNING to find out PERIMETERS OF COMPOUND SHAPES because it is quite difficult. Here are some links to websites (for secondary children!) to help you.

ASSEMBLY CHANGE!!!!! NOW 20TH NOVEMBER

4C,

Miss Louise (your old teacher) has been really kind and has offered to do her teacher assembly this Friday (the 13th). That mean that we can do ours on...

FRIDAY 20TH NOVEMBER!!!!

This means that if you are ill this week, you can still do the assembly hopefully next Friday instead. We will just stick the new date onto your fabulous posters.

I thought that an assembly with almost a third of the class missing would be a bit strange:7 people were off today, 1 went home and another person felt ill in class:(

Hope this cheers some of you up who are at home ill. I will add some homework over the next few days and maybe even scan in some work we have been doing to edmodo so you can catch up.

Get well soon all of you!

Miss Sam is well

4c,

Thank you for being concerned but I am absolutely fine. I've felt rather ill for the last few weeks but I haven't had a high temperature like many of you (I just felt heavy and not quite right). I know I have been a bit of a grump recently :)

I'm looking forward to seeing all your great homework and to practising our assembly. If you are ill and at home, please just concentrate on getting better (remember to drink lots of fluids and have lots of healthy food!)

I won't be in school for the first lesson as I need to do some essential paperwork but I will get back as soon as I can.

See you tomorrow!

I will also add the site to our website list.

Esteban's special homework!

Esteban,

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well; we hope to see you back at school soon.

I'm sure you'd like to do lots of homework while you are off!

You can:
1. Practise this week's spellings (see below).
2. Write sentences using this week's spellings.
3. Practise adding 3 numbers to make 300, 400, 500, 700, 900.
Estimate first and then do it. You cannot use the same number twice.
4. Revise for your science tests. You will do them when you come back to school or if you are going to be away for a while longer, I will give them to Marta who can make sure you do them in test conditions!!
5. Watch the instructional video on here for making a spooky cocktail. Invent your own cocktail for a Roald Dahl character to drink. You could make it with me on Friday if you are back to school then. You need to write down the instructions clearly for your recipe as I would like to put them on display after our assembly.
6. If you are not back tomorrow, I will add the comprehension homework to edmodo for you to do.

Ovum vs ovule

Well done to Andrea for such an interesting question! It's easy to see why you were the Star of the Week! I will put your certificate on here today!
Hector, remind me to print yours again so I can put it on here.

In fourth grade you don't need to understand the difference between the two words ovum and ovule but I think the text books should use the same word all the time so they don't confuse you.

Ovum/Ovule:
The ovum is inside the ovule.

Hope that helps!

Omar,

I know you've been a bit poorly and that you will be off school for a few days so here is a list of things to do:

1. Write your own Twits chapter.
2. Learn the song, "Especially For You" that is on this blog.
3. Revise times tables.
4. Read your library book.
5. Invent a new ending to the Twits and write it.
6. Think about what you want to do in our assembly.
7. Learn about the life cycle of a plant and other life cycles. A good website to help you is the enchanted learning website. Click on life cycles to go to it.
8. Find out any information you can about Romans.

If you go to edmodo I will attach some documents to help you with the Twits' work. I will add more for you tomorrow.

Get well soon - we know you will!

4C,

I know it is very early but start learning this now. This was one of my favourite songs when I was your age (your parents might know KYLIE who sings this).

I thought it would be nice to end with a song about Mr and Mrs Twit being nice to each other fr once!! I will tell you what the rest of the assembly will be about on Monday so that we can begin filming bits for it!

Instead, we will continue in our ICT time next week and do the presentations in our library time. That way you can prepare a Powerpoint (after getting my copy from www.edmodo.com and research from the websites I have added to our list.

Some "Guess Who" help

I realised you might find the questions a little difficult so I have typed some up to help you.

Remember you SHOULD be using adjectives. For example,
Does he have a massive nose?

If you printed out the cards, print out the question sheet to keep with them.

I have also added a really good website from the British Council to help you with your English. There are some good stories and fun games. Enjoy!

GUESS WHO

4C,

Well done today for your excellent "Guess Who" cards - I can't wait to play it next week. If you would like to start playing at home, you will need to print and cut up two copies of the photo below.

Remember to ask a parent before you print!

See you tomorrow for netball first thing.

Mosaics

Now that you have finished your ESCHER patterns and tessellations, we are going to begin work on MOSAICs. It you're not exactly sure what they are, click on the website I have added to our list on the right.

I think Gran Canaria and Spain in general has amazing examples of mosaics. If you see one, please take a photo and bring it into school for our display.

If you have been to Barcelona then I am sure that you have seen GAUDI's mosaics. Here is an example. Ask your parents if they have seen these mosaics.

Here is a very colourful mosaic that a class in Australia did together. What do you think? Let me know!

If you want to get some ideas for your own mosiac, look at this website. This is a company in my town of Brighton who make fantastic mosaics. This is an example of one of the mosaics.

Also, please tell me if you know someone who is a mosiac artist as they may be able to help us with our work.

Well done for a great first "proper" week at school. I was very impressed that you got an extra 5 minutes on Thursday for achieving the whole flower and your class target of working quietly.

I hope that you will get lots more flowers next week and so lots more free patio time.

Thank you to Sofia, Irene and "anonymous" for their comments so far. Irene, I still expect you to read at home every day too to answer your question.

I will probably add some things on here over the weekend.

Keep watching your seeds to see if they GERMINATE and grow.

Hello 4C,

I have added two more websites to our list. There are lots more but these are two of my favourites for our history topic, Romans and Celts. Have a look!

Welcome back to work!!

4C,

Welcome back to school!

I hope you have had a lovely weekend. I did! I went cycling in Tejeda. Here is a photo of me on my bike!

This week we are going to start most of our topics for history, science and art.
We will begin our term's work for numeracy and literacy next week. This week in numeracy we will be revising addition, subtraction and division. In literacy we will be revise taking notes and past, present and future verbs.

I will add some websites this week to help you. In numeracy, many of you could revise POLYGONS AND 2D SHAPES from the work we did last week.

Before we begin our life cycle topic properly, it is probably a good idea to revise what a plant needs to grow so here is an activity you can do...

I have also added the website to our list to help you.

See you tomorrow!

Miss Sam

Welcome to 4th Grade!

Dear 3C,

I´m going to be your teacher next year and I´m very excited already!
This will be our class blog for the next year.

I like to use a lot of ICT in the classroom and hope you do too.

I will put some websites on here during the summer holidays for you.

You can send me messages on here to tell me how you are and what you have been doing with your holiday. I will show you how to do this before the end of term.

See you in September!

Miss Sam
